Truepenny
296 hospitals across Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Texas and Washington — more metros as we verify their files.
How we build these numbers →
truepenny (n.) — an honest person. First use c. 1556.
Every price is an estimate — your cost depends on your plan, deductible,
and the services actually performed. Always confirm with the provider
before scheduling.
Prices come directly from each hospital's machine-readable
standard-charges file (CMS v3.0.0), published under the federal Hospital
Price Transparency rule (45 CFR §180). "Commercial median" is the median
dollar-denominated rate negotiated by commercial insurers, after removing
junk values (<$15), extreme outliers, and rates below half of
Medicare's own payment for the procedure (the outpatient facility rate,
or the physician fee schedule for office visits, EMG, sleep studies and
therapy) — amounts that low are clinician fees, not full facility
prices. Procedure names are our
own plain-English descriptions, not official code descriptors.
